Tomorrow is the start of the 3 day, 30 company performance known as the ‘Spring to Dance Festival’ organized by Dance St. Louis under the direction of Michael Uthoff. This is its 4th annual year in production. It’s an amazing mix of some of the best ballet, jazz, modern, and ethnic companies from St. Louis and other nearby areas. (There is some incredible Indian dancing if anyone is curious) Tickets are really cheap and you get a little taste of everything from a lot of top-notch companies such as Giordano Jazz Company, Nashville Ballet, Memphis Ballet, MADco, Thodos dance Company, and River North Dance Chicago. (These are just a few of the great companies coming here to st. Louis!) It’s like a buffet of dance, but not because usually you pay more for a buffet and it’s usually a bunch of garbage sitting under a heat lamp for several hours. This show is cheaper than your average dance performance ticket and the companies must submit their works for review before being chosen, so it’s likely that most of it is good, or at the very least, a conversation starter. (An appetizer for thought, perhaps? I don’t know why it’s all coming back to food. I must be hungry)
Best of all, I am reviewing this show for the Saint Louis Front Page- so I will post a link to that probably Monday. I have a lot of friends dancing with various companies and I can’t wait to see them perform- and then tell them how BAD they were! Just kidding.
It’s not too late to get tickets and I strongly encourage anyone, dance aficionados or enthusiasts or just people who don’t want to be stuck watching family guy reruns on TV to go. I am excited to go all three nights, but you can just choose one (thursday, friday, or saturday if 3 nights of dance is art-overload). Anyways, here is the preview up on St. Louis Front Page for a little more information, and a link to the front page if you’re interested in St. Louis news: http://www.slfp.com/
